Meta’s Ray-Ban Display smart glasses are a fascinating example of that — blending AI, optics, and everyday design into something that looks just like a regular pair of shades.
But behind that clean Ray-Ban frame, there’s a lot going on.
Here’s how they actually think, see, and speak — and how design choices shape that entire experience.
The Illusion of a “Screen-less” Display
There’s no mini screen hiding in the glass — instead, there’s a tiny light engine tucked into the frame that projects visuals onto the lens.
The lens itself acts like a waveguide, guiding and bending light into your eyes, forming a crisp, floating image — text, icons, navigation, captions — right in your field of view.
It’s not full-blown AR; it’s glanceable information, intentionally minimal.
That’s a UX decision — not a limitation.
